Bereavement – When the Light Goes Out : December 4th : Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

We all know death is the unavoidable aspect of life. Some people after a period of expected and natural mourning move on with their life while others fall into the depths of depression and melancholia and never quite recover.

This practice group exploration is not a substitute for professional 1:1 help if you experiencing bereavement; this is an exploration of some of the ways people can and do as a flower in the spring return to a full, loving and meaningful life.

Office of National Statistics figures show us in 2018 there was a far higher, peek number of deaths in January (64,154) through to April and October through November.

Your bereavement is unique to you and only you yet at the same time millions or billions of people through history have experienced a similar loss so this is pointing to the fact that there is more than hope to move back into the swing of your life.

The Newcastle NLP Practice Group will be exploring ideas from Psychotherapy, in particular Sigmund Freuds ideas regarding melancholia and unresolved interpersonal issues. Moving into Gestalt parts work for those conversations that didn’t happen during life and some themes from Zen and Stoicism as well as NLP submodality interventions to rearrange the inner order of representations and as such the meaning we are unconsciously making. And yes there will of course be hypnosis as a form of resolution for bereavement.

All proceeds from this Decembers Newcastle NLP Practice group will be donated to Coping With Cancer North East.

Practical Magic Learning Hypnotic Language Patterns : October 2nd : Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Language Patterns, Trancecafe No Comments »

If you don’t really feel you can spontaneously create useful and meaningful hypnotic language patterns and are struggling to fully use them you might benefit from a different kind of practice. If the vast array of hypnotic language patterns seems overwhelming or just too much to take in you are completely correct from a certain perspective yet to many peoples surprise once a structure is learned and understood the rest of learning hypnotic language patterns is surprisingly simple.

Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group - Deep Learning

Not all practice and learning is created equal. Unless there is a certain kind of deep connection, practice and learning can be mind numbingly boring, like writing out lists of words for a French exam. There are however the kinds of practice that are exciting, fun and engaging and of course effortful; but critically important it’s the right kind of effort.

This Trance Cafe will be a deep practice and exploration of several hypnosis language patterns within a fun, unusual and effortful ( the right kind of effort ) to result in being more able to spontaneously create useful and practical language patterns in the situations of your choosing.

Come along to enjoy a self evident,  George Armitage Miller style T.O.T.E. ( Test, Operate, Test Exit ) self evaluation of how you can, in a very short period of time, do the right deep practice to substantially increase your hypnotic language abilities.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle and NLP Practice Group : November 2018

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, Therapist Practice & Supervision, Trancecafe No Comments »

The topic of the last 2018 Hypnotherapy and NLP practice group in Newcastle is Framing and ReFraming. This small exploration is going to focus in detail about how we as people in our life, professional practice and all those tiny in-between steps go about connecting the dots of experience to make a story; Which as Timothy Wilson in Strangers to Ourselves suggests may well be very different to the actuality of unconscious behaviours and ‘personality traits’.

And that story is the fabric of our life, which holds and way too often contorts what we can often accept as reality, truth or illusion, depending on our perceptions and unconscious frames.

Frames and Reframing Hypnotherapy Newcastle

Frames have the tendency to focus a particular kind of thought, perception in both the conscious awareness and the unconscious. If you think about it, a Frame is like a boundary that includes the focus, like foveal vision and outside the artificial boundary of conscious attention, the peripheral vision. All of this effects and affects what we call ‘meaning’.

A change in language can transform our apprehension of the cosmos” Benjamin Lee Whorf

This Exploration will explore how the ‘Frames’ we use in every day life are creating, often unconsciously our reality. More importantly how with effortful and deliberate recognition of such frames and then the deliberate use of more beneficial thinking can, when we experience problems, when we experience discontinuity, when we are being lead by the nose by polarized society be of serious utility in, a gestalt way being OK with personal views, behaviours and being OK to express, non-sheep ways of being human.

So this is going to include stereotypes, evidence frames, linguistic prepositions and I hope a useful, respectful way to recognise and challenge any framing that you feel ( and very importantly don’t feel ) that’s Jungs Feeler function, is accepted or rejected all too easily.

This I Feel will move into ReFraming where there are numerous strategies to explore and potentially redefine meaning with some serious effect on outcome.

Newcastle NLP Practice Group : Saturday 1st September

NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe, Workshop No Comments »

Newcastle NLP Practice Group for Saturday 1st September has four pre arranged topics for exploration that have the potentials to make life a little easier and a lot more connected to your own values. The topics at the NLP Practice Group Newcastle are : Thought Provoking Philosophizing, Self Sabotage, Via Negativa and a proposed synthesis of the previous three topics.

A main theme for this coming weekend is ‘models’; their use of, rejection of and understanding of what is highlighted and hidden when we are thinking and ‘trying’ to squeeze experience into a model; as well as the kind of biases and blindness that can come from believing any model is real. The earth moves and no lever, no matter how long will let you move it but you can fly a kite tied to your head!

Newcastle NLP Practice Group - Models

Thought Provoking Philosophizing

An exploration into the work and some of the methods of Phil Jeremiah IV’s Humour Worx way of playfully challenging, with the use of irrelevance, concussion and discussion, stale stories and old beliefs that are holding you back. Newcastle NLP Practice Group is hosting Phil again this coming October for a full weekend of the serious use of humour in change work.

We will practice several patterns and most importantly explore the framing that sets up, validates and justifies, irrelevance, provocation and compassionate discussion. Creating a safe space ‘bubble’ where the rules of traditional change work are left in their stately homes where the rules apply. This is something else.

Self Sabotage

There is a wonderful story that I get from Green Wing about the origins of the word Sabotage. In short its about disgruntled workers who took their shoes off and chucked them into the machines that were taking their jobs during the industrial revolution. Who says history has nothing to teach us!

In a recent post I explored some themes regarding ‘self-sabotage’ and one of the reciprocate ideas that was offered was something like ‘fear of success’. I believe this is absolute nonsense at the initial level of causation basically because there is no cause. The added second order effects or meanings of new responsibilities I highly support. Fear in the initial sense is of success or failure is no-thing, it;s what it means.

What if any of the ‘self sabotage’ stuff is just and I mean just in at least two senses, is your inner wisdom telling you that no matter what, stuff is OK the way it is, for now. Imagine that! How easy could that make your life that you obviously don’t want to be easy. There maybe addressing and going beyond some paradox in this exploration.

Via Negativa

Massively inspired by a whole chapter, and theme in Incerto, the book Anti-Fragile ( Nassim Nicholas Taleb ) of a kind of reductionism.  We know about what is not working. It’s very simple, too simple! Less is more.

There are way to many ‘tings’ in our life that are, to put it simply, are shit or shite, depending on how you say this. For really negative consequences, such as falling of a ladder I prefer that utterance of the word ‘shit’. Its that word that we all utter when everything goes funny shaped. Know what mean? I think so.

I want to explore, something I have done and done well in the last two years of removing, mostly by not doing and often by ignoring something I was expected to respond to.  Taking the crap out of your life is IMO wonderful, it’s often effortful and sometimes painful. It’s the stuff you know in you soul and like Alanis Morissette says ‘you oughta know‘, this is the acknowledge it and do something about it, which is often about subtraction and making your life easier.

Practice & Topics Decided on the Day

You may also wish to practice all kinds of NLP and Hypnotherapy at the Newcastle NLP Practice Group so there is plenty of time set aside to do just that. Well I hope to be seeing you Saturday 1st September for an excellent value ( only £20 for the day ) days practice, connection and fun.

Honesty and One Heck of a Response : Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

This April Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group is combining some Provocative Coaching with some Patterns of reformulation ( aka Sleight of Mouth ) to get to the meat or Zen of something spontaneous and genuine and then reframing or re-meaning the perceived problem,as in you get it different.

Last Wednesday I met up with my friend and mentor Phil Jeremiah, In Newcastle late at night ( at least for me ) and over coffee and a tomato juice with Wooster sauce, we shared some ideas. All this happened with as can be imagined, a little provocation and semi-structured spontaneous humour.

Provocative Therapy Humour Worx

In case you don’t know Phil is the best congruent practitioner of Provocative Therapy I have met. Phil is in Newcastle this July to share his Provocative Humour Worx methodology. So from this I will be sharing two powerful patterns Phil taught ( demonstrated ) with me at the Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group.

Following on from this, having just about extruded a honest and genuine response, as I like to move ideas across seemingly fragmented domains, we will be utilising the Patterns of Reformulation, originally modeled by Robert Dilts from Bandler. A series of ‘patterns’ which are kind of all about changing the meaning ( meant or offered ) to, obviously, change the structure of thinking and produce neurological change.

Let’s take such a statement as ‘I can’t lose weight because of my genetics‘.

Some of the Patterns of Reformulation include exploring such labels as :

Prior Cause :

  • ‘No its not that, it’s because you love food more than your husband’
  • ‘Well you say that but you like to be cuddly.’
  • ‘Nope, it’s cause you were dropped on your head as a child.’

Intention

  • ‘I think its all about you wanting to be loved for who you are.’
  • ‘You just want to protect yourself with padding.’
  • ‘It’s because you like to have a physical presence that can’t be ignored.’

Metaphor / Analogy

  • ‘Genetics has so little to do with this, but you like a scientific exploration of a lie.’
  • ‘Tie two birds together, four wings and can’t fly. What?’
  • ‘But you are a perfect product of god and society!’

All about doing enough concussion to the verbal descriptions to help reformulate the internal maps in a useful way. Come along and explore some different ways of change at the Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group this April.

Realising your Dreams in 2018 : Newcastle NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group, Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

After the exhausting corporate sponsored spending holiday of Black Friday you might be wondering what on Earth you would like to not be spending your money on in 2018. Those BF bargain sellers can hike their price up at least 28 days before they can then be reduced to temp the gullible buyer into buying something you may not need or even want.

Even after some great material bargain, it is pretty sure that the joys of a new gadget will fade and whatever need or felt requirement that urged you into buying will come back again.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle

This is the last Trance Cafe until Feb 2018 and it’s a great opportunity to be focusing in a very general way as to what non-material goals and outcomes you would really like to realise in 2018.

Many people fall into the trap of planning and organising the micro details of a project and lose sight of the bigger picture. If you consider simply walking to the local shop, each step will take you away from the intended goal by a little. If you concentrate on each step and get bogged down in noticing you are a little off course with each step you lose sight of the intended destination.

This is often the same with therapeutic interventions when goals, specifics and detailed action plans are suggested to be a great idea. This can remind you of the purpose of a map. Good enough to navigate by but with excess detail the map becomes the territory and obviates the usefulness of any such map.

So this practice group will be about high level goals and their intended intentions. Also there will be a hypnotic way of future orienting and the possibility of experiencing my Spiral Dynamics Inspired future pacing.

One of my goals in 2018 is sharing and teaching more NLP and Hypnotherapy to benefit our local community so with this in mind – this Trance Cafe – Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP practice group is free to attend. Attendees are invited to give a donation to St Oswalds Hospice – where the Newcastle NLP practice group has been running for nearly 10 years.

I, Identifying and Identity – Hypnotherapy & NLP Practice in Newcastle

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

On a lazy Saturday morning, watching the slow turn of Autumn raining down leaves with warm colours piqued with earthy scents, I am reflecting in my thoughts. This is a season of great change.

Right now, as I write, I am thinking about this week coming ahead. I am seeing friends, have at least two walks arranged and of course this Wednesdays practice group. The topic of exploration ‘I, Identifying and Identity.’

These three topics have no direct physical reality basically this is the stuff of thought that both affects and effects our experience like filters in or out in both positive and negative ways. What we actually experience is shaped by our expectations!

Newcastle NLP Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Thankfully, there are lots of creative and successful ways to change something you want to change about yourself. Most of everyone’s knowledge is unconscious and a gentle and poignant reminder of what you already know can go a long way. What this has a great deal to do with is the unconscious beliefs ( or anticipations for the future ) we have; which can be explored and changed – with effort!

OK, so the topics for explorations are how we ‘perceive ourselves’ how others ‘perceive us’ in that this all influences who we are; potentially answering that tricky question – who are you? How is it possible to know, accept and change what we are identifying with in order to accept and integrate our shadow into what we are.

Lots of ideas and concepts from various fields – which is this – information which can turn into knowledge that becomes the updating stories about and in our lives. Hope to see you there!

Anxiety, Emotions and Openness to Change Patterns : Newcastle NLP & Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Anxiety is worry about an event, situation or potential future outcome that ranges from undesirable to calamitous. Sometimes for ourself, sometimes for others or both. We can as people be in similar situations yet have completely different responses. You may be cool as a summer cucumber and I could be as anxious as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory.

Anxiety has some things to do with fear, aggression, control, environment, genetics … the list goes on. Yet we most likely all have had some direct experience of anxiety so we understand the term. And most of the time its not pleasant and can feel very disempowering because of emotions and thoughts of helplessness.

There are arrays of pharmaceutical companies creating a variety of drugs that are targeted at the fairly large array of ‘anxiety disorders’, over 100 books on how to beat anxiety yet its still a problem.

Anxiety Hypnotherapy Newcastle

Perhaps the real cause of psychological anxiety could be found in Budhism, Zen, Hinduism or any of the contemplative spiritual traditions where the ‘illusion of a separate self’ or an individual ‘I’ is the cause of suffering. We can also ponder that anxiety is a learned behaviour in both thinking gone wild, out of control and equally the bodily stress response which can support and fuel it.

As an idea, if you could not separate, lets say frustration between your mind-body, that is being that experience, would you still feel-perceive frustration or could you just be frustration? Now, depending on how you reacted emotionally to that idea, you have either become open or closed to that possibility of change.

Our responses, your willingness to explore an idea has some relationship to your fixed ways of thinking and being in the world. Fixed ways of thinking and being in some sense define our current potential. So this Trance Cafe, exploring psychological change and hypnotherapy will be exploring how strong positive emotions can affect some real change.
