Stories, Fables and Analogies are part of the rich and diverse texture of all cultures, they form a huge part of our trivial and deep communications in day to day life; they also are one of the most pervasive patters that can reinforce problems and can even more nurture a systemic change, a perceptual shift, a quantum leap in an individuals positive reality.

Excellent communicators, change professionals and coaches can share really good and very relevant stories with their clients and you already have a life times experience of immensely valuable stories you can share. There are the ones you have really listened to which shape reality, anticipations; deal with and explore the inevitable life ‘events’ we will all experience at one time or another and those stories are there inside you.

Newcastle NLP Practice Group

You carry your stories with you like books, hundreds, thousands or more and they are available because of the associations you make to your current experience and aswell you know they are there in different formats when you explore the inherent and practiced stories you can use in the context of therapeutic change.

How such stories can amplify both states and relevant experiences as catalysts for change; this is part of the indirect ( bypassing the judging functions of mind ) method massively exemplified in Ericksonian hypnotherapy and also ranging towards the very direct telling and prescribing as in bardic, shamanistic and I dare say it commercial preaching. This is influencing language utilisation of change work, politics and religion.

This February we are exploring the relevant application of stories and analogies in the context of change work and coaching. Where shared stories match and offer new ways to thinking and doing, open old and forgotten learnings to displace and shift the meanings of stuck and problematic ways of being.

As a child you probably loved and looked forward to stories. Old ones and new ones where in some way you identified with the characters and the adventures they are having so in some very real way, stories can remind us that there are things we know but don’t know we know that can be transformative. Come and re-discover some of those things you know but aren’t yet remembering that are valuable treasures waiting to be unearthed again in the present.
