Solution Focused Solutions

In October I attended a one day with shop with Ben Furman, one of the giants, who shares his work. I want to share with you three kinds of SF practice that can make the hope and likely hood of change much more realistic.

Hypnotherapy for Habits

In his seminal book, Dave Elman Hypnotherapy, Dave explicates what he regards as major discoveries in changing habits. The pivital points here being the difference twixt a known problems origin ( root cause – yuk ) and an unknown cause. The unknown cause resolution, in this mode of change, requires some regression or ‘hypno analysis’ to ascertain why this happened and following on from work in the hypnotic state, a very important conscious discussion apropos to effect the real possibility of long term generative change.

Hypnotic Language Patterns

Recognising as well as utilising a certain class of hypnotic language patterns, presuppositions, in this case also as to how to create and nurture a kind of perceptual reality supporting a present and future orientated anticipation of hopefulness in addition to the remembering and revising of realising new and additional skills and general wellness.

Practical Magic Learning Hypnotic Language Patterns : October 2nd : Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Language Patterns, Trancecafe No Comments »

If you don’t really feel you can spontaneously create useful and meaningful hypnotic language patterns and are struggling to fully use them you might benefit from a different kind of practice. If the vast array of hypnotic language patterns seems overwhelming or just too much to take in you are completely correct from a certain perspective yet to many peoples surprise once a structure is learned and understood the rest of learning hypnotic language patterns is surprisingly simple.

Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group - Deep Learning

Not all practice and learning is created equal. Unless there is a certain kind of deep connection, practice and learning can be mind numbingly boring, like writing out lists of words for a French exam. There are however the kinds of practice that are exciting, fun and engaging and of course effortful; but critically important it’s the right kind of effort.

This Trance Cafe will be a deep practice and exploration of several hypnosis language patterns within a fun, unusual and effortful ( the right kind of effort ) to result in being more able to spontaneously create useful and practical language patterns in the situations of your choosing.

Come along to enjoy a self evident,  George Armitage Miller style T.O.T.E. ( Test, Operate, Test Exit ) self evaluation of how you can, in a very short period of time, do the right deep practice to substantially increase your hypnotic language abilities.

Orgiastic Enthusiasm Deconditioning Unhappy Dogma : Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP Practice Group : September 18th

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

Orgiastic Enthusiasm is one way to describe a way of being happier and more content more of the time as in living more spontaneously. Your conditioning, your unconscious responses and your environment are all contributing aspects to your expectations of how life is panning out for you. Have you ever really wondered how much your own ‘personal myth’ contributes to your life experiences?

At a crucial point in his life, Carl Jung asked himself a question. “What myth am I living?”

Orgiastic enthusiasm - Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Right now there is an epidemic of seriously poor mental health. One in four people in the UK and USA have a current diagnosable mental health problem. There are astonishingly high proportion of people in the UK and USA taking anti-depressants. Why is the first port of call prescription drugs for what can be called normal moods? Could this be a dying off of the old myths and a slow awakening to the flickering possibility of a much needed new myth? Think American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

I hope to put your mind at ease and define the introductory words in their original context. Orgy in essence means Sacrament and Enthuse means to have divinity inside you, to be divinity. These are important ideas in one, a relationship to your own myth or, two, you are your own living myth. This is one of the profound differences between monotheistic and polytheistic religions.

Joseph Campbell has defined four functions of myth which are required for the myth to be functioning ‘correctly’ at the level of the individual, culturally, cosmologically and mystically. To be sure these are massively inherited yet can be updated or sublimated inside you so as to offer the potentiality to go beyond the pairs of opposites of dualistic experience and become, or at least connect with your true birth right and all the response-ability or not that comes.

All that is offered here are stories, ideas and some exercises that could be a seed source of personal transformation and shatter the Promethean chains of inherited, conditioned rights and wrongs. The same transformations can and are described in many different ways such as the process of individuation ( Jung), evolving self ( Kegan ), enlightenment ( buddhism ), moksha ( hinduism) and satori ( zen ). Hope to see you here on 18th at 7pm.

Changing a Troublesome Inner Voice and Unhelpful Beliefs

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

A lot of people talk about what to do with your ‘inner voice’. It’s a fact that we tend to talk to ourselves in our own heads.

You see, with NLP, we’re often asked what are the most important things we can practice on ourselves in order to be able to change the way we feel on a regular basis. We are asked, ‘how can I start to manage and change my beliefs. How can I do good effective work in the way in which I think.

Newcastle Hypnotherapy for Troublesome Inner Voice
A great way to do this is to change the way you talk with yourself, to help change the way you feel about yourself and others.

Because, by changing your inner voice effectively, you’re also adjusting limiting beliefs about yourself that had been programmed before.

The thing is too, when we learn to communicate better with ourselves, we can become more present and learn to also communicate more authentically and honestly with others too.

There will be five top tips for you on how to combat your negative internal dialogue to help you change the way you feel. And also put this intro practice because, with enough work, this can really help with limiting beliefs about yourself and others too, therefore also supporting improvements in how you perceive your world and others.

So if you are brave enough to admit that you do actually talk to yourself… like all of the time and in fact it can be quite grim too, then join us for the best top tips and change work to help you move forward for you and your clients.

Better Boundarys and Inherent Values : Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group March 2019

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

Wednesday morning just as the light dawns and birds, distant cars and a pheasant breath their song to me, I sit in the garden, neither warm or cold and for a while, without thoughts, be. All of this and much more was my immediate experience, which is now reduced to put into words.  This Trance Cafe is an exploration in boundarys and associated transitional values in some context.

A boundary is usually thought of a physical one, say a wall or your body and as such makes immediate sense. There are many other kinds of metaphorical boundrys and one of these is the intangible yet fully experienceable ‘values’ or the kinds of experiences we both seek to attain and move to avoid. There is also the being centred and unmoved kind of boundry experience. Move away, move towards and still, not moving.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle Boundarys and Values

Boundarys and values seems to me to come together or apart in our normals day to day relationships with others and with our self. This looks like something to do with expectations ( or anticipations much more fluid ) on ourself or with others. If you can become both honest and clear when and what you are expecting of yourself or another you have the chance of a true integration within yourself.

The Gestalt Prayer

I do my thing, and you do your thing.
I am not in this world to live up to your expectations
And you are not in this world to live up to mine.
You are you and I am I,
And if by chance we find each other, it’s beautiful.
If not, it can’t be helped.
– Fritz Pearls

A relational boundary or lack of can be both useful and problematic. This is going to be some kind of functions as to your own levels of development and aspects of ( as Wilber calls ) agency and communion or the need to be separate and affiliated. There may well be aspects of time as the certainty of context.

There is an old saying that is relevant to this exploration, in fact there are two.

Do unto others as you would hope they would do unto you. – Gold Standard

and from Nicolas Taleb – the more robust Silver Standard. Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do to you.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Matthew 7

2019 February Focus on Methods and Techniques of Dave Elman : Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

Well the Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group returns this coming February 2019 with a focus on the methods and techniques of one of the modern pioneers of hypnotherapy, Dave Elman. Incredibly effective for working with people and one of the most easy to use methods of self hypnosis.

Elman’s definition of real hypnotherapy has two very characteristic and distinct validation points. These are clear and conscience. The first is what he calls ‘bypassing the critical factor’ and the second is ‘establishing selective thinking.’

So what these terms mean is actually pretty simple. Bypassing the critical factor is giving your conscious, your analytical mind something to occupy itself. This stops the doubts, the what if’s and makes a space where your other mind can go about its business without conscious interference. This can be as simple as playing a game of pretend!

Dave Elman Techniques NLP Practice Group Newcastle upon Tyne

The second step is establishing selective thinking. This is having an idea, a suggestion or a reality become the soul focus of your reality. And both of these steps, according to Elman are entirely up to the person being hypnotised. Nothing to do with you as an operator, the whole responsibility is with the person being hypnotised. Of course a great deal of rapport or trust as well as being calm and relaxed are key to successful hypnotherapy.

So if you are interested in learning and compounding your skills to include hypnotism in the style of Elman and we are talking inductions in less than a minute. Learning how to create and use analgesia and post hypnotic suggestion to relieve needle or dental fear and some real deepening of the trance state do come along.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle and NLP Practice Group : November 2018

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, Therapist Practice & Supervision, Trancecafe No Comments »

The topic of the last 2018 Hypnotherapy and NLP practice group in Newcastle is Framing and ReFraming. This small exploration is going to focus in detail about how we as people in our life, professional practice and all those tiny in-between steps go about connecting the dots of experience to make a story; Which as Timothy Wilson in Strangers to Ourselves suggests may well be very different to the actuality of unconscious behaviours and ‘personality traits’.

And that story is the fabric of our life, which holds and way too often contorts what we can often accept as reality, truth or illusion, depending on our perceptions and unconscious frames.

Frames and Reframing Hypnotherapy Newcastle

Frames have the tendency to focus a particular kind of thought, perception in both the conscious awareness and the unconscious. If you think about it, a Frame is like a boundary that includes the focus, like foveal vision and outside the artificial boundary of conscious attention, the peripheral vision. All of this effects and affects what we call ‘meaning’.

A change in language can transform our apprehension of the cosmos” Benjamin Lee Whorf

This Exploration will explore how the ‘Frames’ we use in every day life are creating, often unconsciously our reality. More importantly how with effortful and deliberate recognition of such frames and then the deliberate use of more beneficial thinking can, when we experience problems, when we experience discontinuity, when we are being lead by the nose by polarized society be of serious utility in, a gestalt way being OK with personal views, behaviours and being OK to express, non-sheep ways of being human.

So this is going to include stereotypes, evidence frames, linguistic prepositions and I hope a useful, respectful way to recognise and challenge any framing that you feel ( and very importantly don’t feel ) that’s Jungs Feeler function, is accepted or rejected all too easily.

This I Feel will move into ReFraming where there are numerous strategies to explore and potentially redefine meaning with some serious effect on outcome.

Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP Practice Group : October 2018

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

One of the most useful, at least to me, patterns that came out of NLP is Presuppositional Language. This month at the Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group we will be exploring and implementing presuppositional language patterns with an intention of becoming better communicators and questioners.

When you ask or are asked a question, such as “how are you?”, there is an inherent form of a response required. Mostly our answers are of the heuristic or with little thought offered. This will get us by quite adequately in most conversations. Something other than run-of-the-mill conversation ( and intra-personal thinking ) can evolve when, with a little fore thought, we restructure our questions and answers more purposefully.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle upon Tyne

Consider the following scenario in the common experience of a therapist working with a client who has depression. One of these ‘questions’ has the possibility of the said client, lapsing into their ‘story’. The script they run that reinforces their impoverished and possibility day time soap opera worthy life story. The other focuses on differences within a time frame. Bit of a difference you can exactly notice here, right?

How are you doing?

What kind of differences have you been noticing since our last appointment?

Not unlike the SF Miracle Question, that helps focus the spotlight of conscious attention to useful possibilities and with a little fore thought may indeed connect up some of the divergent seemingly unrelated thinking that can lead to real and genuine insights.

Also for the evenings exploration we will be using the EMIPlus resource state generator as one way to get into useful learning states, where we can both avoid the premature need to understand before doing and at the same time

Newcastle NLP Practice Group : Saturday 1st September

NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe, Workshop No Comments »

Newcastle NLP Practice Group for Saturday 1st September has four pre arranged topics for exploration that have the potentials to make life a little easier and a lot more connected to your own values. The topics at the NLP Practice Group Newcastle are : Thought Provoking Philosophizing, Self Sabotage, Via Negativa and a proposed synthesis of the previous three topics.

A main theme for this coming weekend is ‘models’; their use of, rejection of and understanding of what is highlighted and hidden when we are thinking and ‘trying’ to squeeze experience into a model; as well as the kind of biases and blindness that can come from believing any model is real. The earth moves and no lever, no matter how long will let you move it but you can fly a kite tied to your head!

Newcastle NLP Practice Group - Models

Thought Provoking Philosophizing

An exploration into the work and some of the methods of Phil Jeremiah IV’s Humour Worx way of playfully challenging, with the use of irrelevance, concussion and discussion, stale stories and old beliefs that are holding you back. Newcastle NLP Practice Group is hosting Phil again this coming October for a full weekend of the serious use of humour in change work.

We will practice several patterns and most importantly explore the framing that sets up, validates and justifies, irrelevance, provocation and compassionate discussion. Creating a safe space ‘bubble’ where the rules of traditional change work are left in their stately homes where the rules apply. This is something else.

Self Sabotage

There is a wonderful story that I get from Green Wing about the origins of the word Sabotage. In short its about disgruntled workers who took their shoes off and chucked them into the machines that were taking their jobs during the industrial revolution. Who says history has nothing to teach us!

In a recent post I explored some themes regarding ‘self-sabotage’ and one of the reciprocate ideas that was offered was something like ‘fear of success’. I believe this is absolute nonsense at the initial level of causation basically because there is no cause. The added second order effects or meanings of new responsibilities I highly support. Fear in the initial sense is of success or failure is no-thing, it;s what it means.

What if any of the ‘self sabotage’ stuff is just and I mean just in at least two senses, is your inner wisdom telling you that no matter what, stuff is OK the way it is, for now. Imagine that! How easy could that make your life that you obviously don’t want to be easy. There maybe addressing and going beyond some paradox in this exploration.

Via Negativa

Massively inspired by a whole chapter, and theme in Incerto, the book Anti-Fragile ( Nassim Nicholas Taleb ) of a kind of reductionism.  We know about what is not working. It’s very simple, too simple! Less is more.

There are way to many ‘tings’ in our life that are, to put it simply, are shit or shite, depending on how you say this. For really negative consequences, such as falling of a ladder I prefer that utterance of the word ‘shit’. Its that word that we all utter when everything goes funny shaped. Know what mean? I think so.

I want to explore, something I have done and done well in the last two years of removing, mostly by not doing and often by ignoring something I was expected to respond to.  Taking the crap out of your life is IMO wonderful, it’s often effortful and sometimes painful. It’s the stuff you know in you soul and like Alanis Morissette says ‘you oughta know‘, this is the acknowledge it and do something about it, which is often about subtraction and making your life easier.

Practice & Topics Decided on the Day

You may also wish to practice all kinds of NLP and Hypnotherapy at the Newcastle NLP Practice Group so there is plenty of time set aside to do just that. Well I hope to be seeing you Saturday 1st September for an excellent value ( only £20 for the day ) days practice, connection and fun.
