May’s Trance Cafe and Newcastle NLP Practice Group is an exploration of Time; how you understand time and more importantly how you can use your thoughts, experiences and apprehensions to change your understanding and meanings of your past, present and future in helpful ways.

Time is always on my side” – Caught Somewhere In Time – Iron Maiden

Now, There are many ways, too may perhaps, to explore what we mean by time. One is the physical cycles of plants, namely our yearly sun cycle from which we define years and day with as our little blue plant orbits and seasons. Another, more relative is psychological time. Something completely different.

Some of the latest research, not a pinch of salt, but a way of ‘understanding’ our psychology, as in what you feel as in inward and outward energy/force, is suggesting our past, present and future are all manged into one or currently wordly understood as merged, united and specifically conflation.

Time can be understood metaphorically as a substance. Time is running out, there is little time left or there is plenty of time. Time can be understood as an essential part of who and what we are; as in the work of Kant, it is part of our essence. Time can also be understood and this makes much sense to be our consciousness as and when in the now our past and present simply just are without our conscious knowing.

So basically it ( time ) IS an aspect of both who and what we are. In terms of Neuro Linguistic Programming, the May Newcastle NLP Practice Group will be exploring Time Lines. It’s more realistic to call this Time Space’s; Past, Present and Future and we may even touch on the timeless.

Our past experiences are used to ‘predict’ how we act, what we do in both usual and novel circumstances. This idea of prediction has a very good neurological research based explanation in ‘How Emotions Are Made’ – Barrett. Without reading that you can think of how on earth a baseball or tennis player manages to return or hit a ball that is travelling faster than is possible to consciously respond to. Or just jump out of the way of a marauding bicycle. It’s our unconscious ( fast ) response.

And wonderfully, we can program and re-program the unconscious, just through rehearsal and deep motivation to change our past, anticipate future behaviours and be very present. With practice as and when it counts with conscious positive practice. Hope to see you at Newcastle NLP Practice Group to explore Time this coming May.
