Anxiety, Emotions and Openness to Change Patterns : Newcastle NLP & Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Anxiety is worry about an event, situation or potential future outcome that ranges from undesirable to calamitous. Sometimes for ourself, sometimes for others or both. We can as people be in similar situations yet have completely different responses. You may be cool as a summer cucumber and I could be as anxious as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory.

Anxiety has some things to do with fear, aggression, control, environment, genetics … the list goes on. Yet we most likely all have had some direct experience of anxiety so we understand the term. And most of the time its not pleasant and can feel very disempowering because of emotions and thoughts of helplessness.

There are arrays of pharmaceutical companies creating a variety of drugs that are targeted at the fairly large array of ‘anxiety disorders’, over 100 books on how to beat anxiety yet its still a problem.

Anxiety Hypnotherapy Newcastle

Perhaps the real cause of psychological anxiety could be found in Budhism, Zen, Hinduism or any of the contemplative spiritual traditions where the ‘illusion of a separate self’ or an individual ‘I’ is the cause of suffering. We can also ponder that anxiety is a learned behaviour in both thinking gone wild, out of control and equally the bodily stress response which can support and fuel it.

As an idea, if you could not separate, lets say frustration between your mind-body, that is being that experience, would you still feel-perceive frustration or could you just be frustration? Now, depending on how you reacted emotionally to that idea, you have either become open or closed to that possibility of change.

Our responses, your willingness to explore an idea has some relationship to your fixed ways of thinking and being in the world. Fixed ways of thinking and being in some sense define our current potential. So this Trance Cafe, exploring psychological change and hypnotherapy will be exploring how strong positive emotions can affect some real change.

Hypnotherapy and Why to Focus Attention : Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

After a delightful pause from June to this August the Trance Cafe returns from a one month pause. So immediately getting back to the themes of hypnosis of both the micro and macro, this August I want to explore and utilise the ( as per Erickson and Rossi ) those questions that both direct and focus awareness.

This form of both simple and complex question, directing and focusing awareness can be a gate-way into trance phenomena and with this the meaning making and analogous mapping of trance phenomena into the changing of habits or creating new options in behaviours and thoughts.

Hypnotherapy Newcastle

So as you may be thinking what is both the point and what do these questions do in focusing awareness?  One of the terms in hypnosis is ‘Critical Factor’ which I have never as yet been a fan of. It really means so many things that in order to process that meaning one must consider: Relationship with both therapist and client. The desire or interest in change from both parties and some sort of highly cognitive thinking process that was believed to prevent hypnosis.

If you have read through that last paragraph then your ‘critical factors’ were engaged. I could ask you if this was because you were interested, if you thought you would resist all attempts at hypnosis or even if you were not aware of what your hands were doing as you read that information.

I will come back to a main theme in that if you chose to engage and in some sense have your attention and your awareness engaged in some activity where you choose to remain engaged this in experience dissolves the ‘critical factor’ myth. You may consider having a normal and good conversation with another person where you are genuinely interested and have your own thing so say an example of this. In other words a positive participation relationship.

So assuming we are all up for engaging and participating in an exploration, we can use the focusing and direction of attention questions in ways that are going to engender trance and absorption of experience in ways that can be very, very useful. Why? Simply because any engagement with another human being, a person, a friend, can open ( and find if required ) the doors to accessing our incredible wardrobe of perceptions and experiences that very simply dissolve the critical factor that didn’t exist in the first place.

So moving on from the questions that may focus awareness and direct interest, we will be moving rapidly to what to do with those questions in developing the possibility of trance phenomenon, and this is a real possibility, and then what on earth to do with that – this is the real skill in utilization and getting to here the door ways of possibility open wide.

Incompletion, Vicarious Placebos and Swapping Experience – Newcastle Hypnotherapy & NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

The past two months Trance Cafe have been laying the foundations for this conclusive part of bringing together a deep exploration in-to modal operators ( could, can, must etc ) and Relative Clauses ( who, which, that, when and where ), the infinite sentence extension which facilitates both a very unusual and trance inducing kind of conversation.

This June is the last Trance Cafe until August 2017 and will be putting the …

If you have just read that and wondered about something missing you will be quite correct. In psychological terms there is an affect called the ‘Zeigarnik effect’ which is all about our need to have things settled and closed. This continuation will be about the deliberate use of incompletion to create …

Mostly in English we speak in the form of Subject – Object. This is like ‘I looked at the Buttercups’ – If the object Subject relationship is altered to something like ‘The Buttercups I watched’ something happens. It’s like hearing Yoda. It’s unusual and its odd. Something we can utilise.

The orbital frontal cortex likes to grab unusual and orient our attention. This is an unconscious process, and we attend, so what comes after can be very interesting, like a hypnotic suggestion to …

If hypnosis as the Gandalf of the hypnosis world has writted ‘hypnosis is the process of communicating ideas’ has any value then doing something a little out of the ordinary to effect communication may well be worth a second look.

Anything odd, weird or strange that is linguistically inappropriate ( think Yoda and swapping Subject Object ) might have that desired effect. And anything we can add to this mix like a Yellow Placebo is in the table. Describing this effect, in detail may have a very vicarious effect in hypnosis.

Topics for experimentation are :

  • Deliberate and peculiar swapping of pro-nouns ( very useful for analytical thinkers ).
  • Placebos and their colour. Suggesting effects of sugar pills.
  • Incomplete sentences that cause …

Hypnosis – Language & IdeoDynamics : NLP Newcastle Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group, Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

As you start to read this post what else are you consciously aware of? I wonder if you noticed you eyes move left to right in the little saccades that they do? Perhaps you are or you aren’t thinking about that now? If you weren’t do you know what were you thinking of as you continue to read? How is your attention shifting?

OK, this months Trance Cafe. March 1st, is an exploration and understanding of some of the aspects of hypnotic language. The ideas is to build up, through practice an understanding of how to use hypnotic language to focus attention and then utilise these aspects to assist people ( your clients ) into altered states of awareness.

Newcastle NLP Practice Group

Being in an altered state of awareness can open up and access unconscious resources, feel good and develop your own technique.

Specifically we will be exploring the esoterically named ( by Erickson and Rossi ) Ideo-Dynamic suggestions that along with some pretty cool question styles can guide people to awareness of movement, sensations, thoughts and emotions.

We will also be building up a simple set of steps that when combined with conscious – unconscious splitting, as an induction, can provide an easy to use way to assist your client ( and give you direct feedback ) into trance.

In principle how to create a dynamic space where insights, resources and new perspectives can grow and evolve.

Hypnosis for Working with Habits and Parts : Newcastle NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group, Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

Throughout life we have been learning and massing a huge amount of habits. A habit is something we can do in a certain situation with practically no conscious thought. We learn habits through repetition over time.

In change work the concept of ‘parts’ is often used to describe a specific aspect of our personality. These aspects can be emotional, behavioral or thoughts which can be considered as aspects of who we are, aspects of our personality.

Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group

This cafe we will be exploring a variety of ways of working with parts to enhance or change behaviors.

It is a profoundly erroneous truism, repeated by all copy-books and by eminent people when they are making speeches, that we should cultivate the habit of thinking of what we are doing. The precise opposite is the case. Civilization advances by extending the number of important operations which we can perform without thinking about them. Operations of thought are like cavalry charges in a battle — they are strictly limited in number, they require fresh horses, and must only be made at decisive moments.” – Alfred North Whithead

I don’t think we actually fully unlearn any of the habits we amass over our life time. What seems to happen is an old habit is overlaid by a new and more functionally appropriate one. By exploring the sequence of steps of a habit we will intend to firstly make this conscious, to make the habit ‘hot’ and move forward to explore several ways in which we can utilise ( or try to ) the end payoff.

Some ways of working can include:

  • Voice Dialogue
  • Ideo-Motoric Movement
  • Gestalt Tactics
  • Time Distortion

Setting and Maintaining Goals : Newcastle Hypnotherapy & NLP Practice Group : December 2016

Hypnotherapy Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

How many times have you or I, decided to set some goal or other yet … managed to screw it up? You are not alone!

The topic of this Decembers practice is both setting and maintaining the necessary motivation to reach and exceed goals. This is no small achievement. In truth this is at the center, the very heart of success in personal and professional development.

goals-and-motivation-hypnotherapy-newcastle

Being the traditional season of upcoming new year resolution, new beginnings and transition; doesn’t it make some sense to be able to set honest, meaningful and attainable goals?

Attaining some goal, any goal, really does take effort. Moving towards a genuine, and key here, attainable goal will  feel rewarding as you take action, bit by bit, in nice, bite size steps. So the idea here is utilising our natural appetitive and consummatory systems. That is basically wanting and liking.

We will begin with identifying a goal and then building motivations around it. Following on from this we will design and plan easy steps in both the achievement and surpassing it. Specifically we will make our goals irresistible, habitual and surprisingly easy.

The time to be planning and implementing new year goals is now. I am setting mine now, will you join me? This is the last Trance Cafe before February 2017 – hope to see you this December.

Making & Creating Meanings : Newcastle NLP & Hypnotherapy Practice Group : September 2016

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Making and creating meaning in and from our experiences can and does dramatically affect our life. Our judgement and it is that, can be the difference between how we perceive our world, as in a problem, opportunity or some other perspective way.

It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that mattersEpictetus

Our perspectives are just that, perspectives. As we can learn to perceive different and as such conjure multiple meanings in different ways, we can open the doors to a better and more personally, more humanistically way of being when it lines up with our true values …

It might be more than nice to be a little freer from the unconscious to conscious meanings we all can at times ‘make’ from our dances with life, when those meanings cause suffering, anxiety and pain, mightn’t it? It might …

Nurturing Kindfulness : Newcastle NLP Practice Group : April 6th

NLP Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Being kind to ourself and to others may be one of the most useful human experiences that helps us both recognise our shared human nature ( Kind ) and help us connect our actions to supporting and being there for our fellows with our natural propensity to do good ( Kind ).

This practice group will explore what kindfullness ( the state of being kind ) means individually and why its a good thing to have access to the right kind of kindfullness much more of the time.

So the idea for the evening is to have an exploration into how we do represent the timeless and eternal in our own inner world with the purpose of linking this for ourselves to our kindfulness state. Now we are going to require some personal experiences of being kind and receiving kindness from others to map those particular submodalities.

Having some representations of kindness, an anchor to our representation of  timelessness we will explore how our attention is either drawn or captured ( there seems to me three modes of this ) as a representation and ecologically engage all three structures as a kind of yin and yang multiplicity.

Time permitting we may also explore how the five poisons can prevent kindfull actions and look to solutions as appropriate.

The First Step In Avoiding A Trap … NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group : 3rd February 2016

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Its the first Trance Cafe of 2016 and so wishing you a belated happy New Year with lots of wonderful experiences to come.

For the February practice evening I want to explore some behavioural patterns that we have learned and seem to likely play out unconsciously. Sometimes, most times, our unconscious behaviour serves us really well, occasionally it doesn’t.

If our thoughts and behaviours are largely unconscious, how can we review and update what we perceive as problematic ‘responses’ in a certain context? This will include some explorations of ‘patterns’, how we can incorporate new learnings and ‘utilising’ these patterns to incorporate useful differences in new ways.

Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

All this will naturally include practising aspects of hypnosis, inductions and change process with a sprinkling of neurology and psychology. Perhaps!

Attachment and Letting Go : 3rd June – Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

ATTACHMENT : PRISON OR PARADISE?

As we journey through our life we naturally experience both things we want and things we want to avoid. This is perfectly normal and healthy. A ‘thing’ in this context could be an experience like a feeling, a thought or action or some material objects.

Many of us have ( or have not ) found out perfect partner, perfect friends, perfect job or perfect home. This is indeed a wonderful world we live with, so much to be enjoyed ( or avoided ) as to the extent our happiness, well-being and inner bliss can come to overly rely on other sources for what is essentially our peace of mind.

Hypnotherapy and Coaching Newcastle

Problems can surface when we do lose ‘things’ and when we simply can’t have others, that is, when there is strong attachment involved which has the potential to be a self made prison and torture chamber.

This translates to our experiencing desires and losses painfully and as such one of the major problems to overcome in life are our attachments that ultimately are barriers to freedom and a mostly peaceful state of mind.

THIS MODULE WE WILL BE EXPLORING methods and practices that can help deal with problem attachments in a variety of ways.
