Incompletion, Vicarious Placebos and Swapping Experience – Newcastle Hypnotherapy & NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

The past two months Trance Cafe have been laying the foundations for this conclusive part of bringing together a deep exploration in-to modal operators ( could, can, must etc ) and Relative Clauses ( who, which, that, when and where ), the infinite sentence extension which facilitates both a very unusual and trance inducing kind of conversation.

This June is the last Trance Cafe until August 2017 and will be putting the …

If you have just read that and wondered about something missing you will be quite correct. In psychological terms there is an affect called the ‘Zeigarnik effect’ which is all about our need to have things settled and closed. This continuation will be about the deliberate use of incompletion to create …

Mostly in English we speak in the form of Subject – Object. This is like ‘I looked at the Buttercups’ – If the object Subject relationship is altered to something like ‘The Buttercups I watched’ something happens. It’s like hearing Yoda. It’s unusual and its odd. Something we can utilise.

The orbital frontal cortex likes to grab unusual and orient our attention. This is an unconscious process, and we attend, so what comes after can be very interesting, like a hypnotic suggestion to …

If hypnosis as the Gandalf of the hypnosis world has writted ‘hypnosis is the process of communicating ideas’ has any value then doing something a little out of the ordinary to effect communication may well be worth a second look.

Anything odd, weird or strange that is linguistically inappropriate ( think Yoda and swapping Subject Object ) might have that desired effect. And anything we can add to this mix like a Yellow Placebo is in the table. Describing this effect, in detail may have a very vicarious effect in hypnosis.

Topics for experimentation are :

  • Deliberate and peculiar swapping of pro-nouns ( very useful for analytical thinkers ).
  • Placebos and their colour. Suggesting effects of sugar pills.
  • Incomplete sentences that cause …

Deeper into Milton Model : Newcastle NLP & Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Its wonderful that there are so many nuances in the use of Milton Model language. Last month at the practice group we explored the use of the conversational postulate within the frame of trance induction. We also explored how to couple the use of negative pacing with the conversation postulate to affect a form of highly utilisable double bind.

In terms of being able to generate an ( almost? ) infinite and relevant stream of hypnotic language during the common pacing-leading in hypnosis one of the most salient syntactic-glues are the use of the connectives. These are known as conjunctions in grammar and hypnotherapists and NLP practitioners categorically know these as complex equivalents and cause effects.

Relative Clause Milton Model

One of the most useful adjuncts to Milton-esque Model language is the deliberate use of the Relative Clause. The Relative Clause can be used to infinitely extend, adding more and more detail to the subject of a sentence. This opens many doors to application in hypnosis such as confusion, amnesia and post hypnotic suggestion. Please have a read of the following sentence.

This May at the practice group which is in Newcastle where we can explore the Relative Clause aspect of the Milton Model that can be used to create the kind of ongoing experience which can lead into something that has a relationship to nested loops that is not quite the same when you think about aspects of recursion and the potential applications in change work with people whom can become absorbed in an interesting way that can lead into trance when we practice at the Newcastle hypnotherapy group.

Milton Model : Hypnotherapy Newcastle Practice Group

Looking back, it was all enjoyable, yet of particular enjoyment on and withing my early NLP training was the Milton Model. The linguistic patterns of Milton Erickson as coded by those legends Grinder and Bandler. Remembering the wonderful learning experience of becoming competent through practice and play.

The April Trance Cafe will be focusing and developing the recognition and use of the Milton Model language patterns in the context of hypnosis. And as I recall learning experiences, so can you recall some of your better, more useful experiences when you have been learning in the ways most useful to you?

Here is an interesting question for you:
Do you want to learn the patterns first or do you want to know just some of the things you can do with the patterns? Hold onto that answer even if you don’t know it consciously yet there is no real reason that both of those can’t happen at the same time, is there?

Over a couple of hours, I wonder how many of the patterns we can explore to a suitable depth of practical application in hypnosis or using a usually unusual learning state to learn patterns in a useful way. It will be nice to see you there to find out.

Hypnosis – Language & IdeoDynamics : NLP Newcastle Practice Group

As you start to read this post what else are you consciously aware of? I wonder if you noticed you eyes move left to right in the little saccades that they do? Perhaps you are or you aren’t thinking about that now? If you weren’t do you know what were you thinking of as you continue to read? How is your attention shifting?

OK, this months Trance Cafe. March 1st, is an exploration and understanding of some of the aspects of hypnotic language. The ideas is to build up, through practice an understanding of how to use hypnotic language to focus attention and then utilise these aspects to assist people ( your clients ) into altered states of awareness.

Newcastle NLP Practice Group

Being in an altered state of awareness can open up and access unconscious resources, feel good and develop your own technique.

Specifically we will be exploring the esoterically named ( by Erickson and Rossi ) Ideo-Dynamic suggestions that along with some pretty cool question styles can guide people to awareness of movement, sensations, thoughts and emotions.

We will also be building up a simple set of steps that when combined with conscious – unconscious splitting, as an induction, can provide an easy to use way to assist your client ( and give you direct feedback ) into trance.

In principle how to create a dynamic space where insights, resources and new perspectives can grow and evolve.

Hypnosis for Working with Habits and Parts : Newcastle NLP Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group, Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

Throughout life we have been learning and massing a huge amount of habits. A habit is something we can do in a certain situation with practically no conscious thought. We learn habits through repetition over time.

In change work the concept of ‘parts’ is often used to describe a specific aspect of our personality. These aspects can be emotional, behavioral or thoughts which can be considered as aspects of who we are, aspects of our personality.

Newcastle Hypnotherapy Practice Group

This cafe we will be exploring a variety of ways of working with parts to enhance or change behaviors.

It is a profoundly erroneous truism, repeated by all copy-books and by eminent people when they are making speeches, that we should cultivate the habit of thinking of what we are doing. The precise opposite is the case. Civilization advances by extending the number of important operations which we can perform without thinking about them. Operations of thought are like cavalry charges in a battle — they are strictly limited in number, they require fresh horses, and must only be made at decisive moments.” – Alfred North Whithead

I don’t think we actually fully unlearn any of the habits we amass over our life time. What seems to happen is an old habit is overlaid by a new and more functionally appropriate one. By exploring the sequence of steps of a habit we will intend to firstly make this conscious, to make the habit ‘hot’ and move forward to explore several ways in which we can utilise ( or try to ) the end payoff.

Some ways of working can include:

  • Voice Dialogue
  • Ideo-Motoric Movement
  • Gestalt Tactics
  • Time Distortion

Making & Creating Meanings : Newcastle NLP & Hypnotherapy Practice Group : September 2016

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Making and creating meaning in and from our experiences can and does dramatically affect our life. Our judgement and it is that, can be the difference between how we perceive our world, as in a problem, opportunity or some other perspective way.

It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that mattersEpictetus

Our perspectives are just that, perspectives. As we can learn to perceive different and as such conjure multiple meanings in different ways, we can open the doors to a better and more personally, more humanistically way of being when it lines up with our true values …

It might be more than nice to be a little freer from the unconscious to conscious meanings we all can at times ‘make’ from our dances with life, when those meanings cause suffering, anxiety and pain, mightn’t it? It might …

NLP Newcastle Practice Group : Meanings and Value

The First Step In Avoiding A Trap … NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group : 3rd February 2016

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

Its the first Trance Cafe of 2016 and so wishing you a belated happy New Year with lots of wonderful experiences to come.

For the February practice evening I want to explore some behavioural patterns that we have learned and seem to likely play out unconsciously. Sometimes, most times, our unconscious behaviour serves us really well, occasionally it doesn’t.

If our thoughts and behaviours are largely unconscious, how can we review and update what we perceive as problematic ‘responses’ in a certain context? This will include some explorations of ‘patterns’, how we can incorporate new learnings and ‘utilising’ these patterns to incorporate useful differences in new ways.

Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

All this will naturally include practising aspects of hypnosis, inductions and change process with a sprinkling of neurology and psychology. Perhaps!

Attachment and Letting Go : 3rd June – Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Group

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle No Comments »

ATTACHMENT : PRISON OR PARADISE?

As we journey through our life we naturally experience both things we want and things we want to avoid. This is perfectly normal and healthy. A ‘thing’ in this context could be an experience like a feeling, a thought or action or some material objects.

Many of us have ( or have not ) found out perfect partner, perfect friends, perfect job or perfect home. This is indeed a wonderful world we live with, so much to be enjoyed ( or avoided ) as to the extent our happiness, well-being and inner bliss can come to overly rely on other sources for what is essentially our peace of mind.

Hypnotherapy and Coaching Newcastle

Problems can surface when we do lose ‘things’ and when we simply can’t have others, that is, when there is strong attachment involved which has the potential to be a self made prison and torture chamber.

This translates to our experiencing desires and losses painfully and as such one of the major problems to overcome in life are our attachments that ultimately are barriers to freedom and a mostly peaceful state of mind.

THIS MODULE WE WILL BE EXPLORING methods and practices that can help deal with problem attachments in a variety of ways.

Exploiting Strengths Shamelessly in Change Work : April 1st 2015

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe No Comments »

When I am working with clients, who are usually coming to see me for problem resolution, one aspect of the work I do is discovering where and in what contexts my clients have real competencies and where, even in the smallest instance, they are doing good.

It’s not always that easy for people who are feeling seemingly insurmountable problems to notice or realise parts of their life where they are competent and doing good because their focus is their problems. A tight focus can have a tendency to obscure and minimise everything else that is available in terms of feelings, thoughts, past and current experience.

One of my friends and mentors Harold often jokes that when his father was in the process of ‘finding him a job’ in his late teens, early 20’s, his father got him that job working in a psychiatric hospital. His father saying ‘the best way to hide a tree is to put it in a forest.’

One of the many talents Harold has which contribute to making him an exceptionally effective therapist is to be unconventional in some of his approaches when he works with his clients. Harold pretty much always sees the good in people and with precision will utilise this, even the smallest, competency as a basis for change and helping his clients realise by themselves, they can and they do have the capacity to make beneficial changes.

This Trance Cafe will be exploring how when people are stuck or recycling the content and meaning of their problems, their experience and perceptions are often confined within quite a tight frame or container and with emphasis, what methods are available to reconnect our clients to their competencies.

Working as a therapist or coach one of our jobs is to ‘out frame’ a problem context and discover or more correctly uncover those processes within a much larger frame that is in some sense a strategy, ready to offer new content within the same or highly parallel frame.

Or having discovered competencies and skills explore ways to map these processes as resources to become consciously available and active in perceived problem situations. This can be accurately described as partitioning and then integration.

A Trance to Remember : Taking Charge of Your Outcomes

Hypnotherapy Practice Group Newcastle, NLP Practice Group Newcastle, Trancecafe, Workshop No Comments »

Beliefs have the power to shape reality, or much more accurately, our perceptions of reality. Let us take for an example someone who is worried or rather anxious. These worries or anxieties  could come from a variety of sources; these may be physical and psychological and/or environmental.

This from me begs  the question what were the conditions, specifically the initial conditions that were at least in part, responsible for all or at least in some part, that particular perception of reality.

Newcastle NLP Hypnotherapy Practice Group

The idea of sensitive dependence on initial conditions is from a branch of science and maths called Chaos theory. Chaos theory is somewhere in between large body physics such as planets movements and the infinitesimal quantum theory which deals with bodies and interactions that are so small as to be almost incomprehensible. It deals very much with interactions on our human perspectives.

Returning to the anxious worrier or even the passive dreamer there are a series of either fortunate or unfortunate events that would seem to have created a proclivity to think and in some senses act in a certain way that can in the case of the anxious worrier and fuel the fires of worry or in the case of the passive dreamer  add water to the flames of any deep realisation; based on and within what previously happened.

By being aware that initial conditions( which we will define) can and do  have a real influence on what can happen  wouldn’t it be useful, wise or even different to have a way of resetting those initial conditions that have the potential to set everything else in motion either for good or for bad.

This March Trance Cafe will explore a methodology to counteract negative beliefs or injunctions very indirectly and then proceed in our processed based way to set the initial conditions, to stack the deck in favour of more positive expectations in a way that is supportive of outcomes and can be easily done-with some effort-by individuals.
